DO NOW Prompts: Choose at least 1 prompt below. Write/think for 10 minutes, until your DO NOW box is filled.
1. What is a chemical reaction? What is involved in a chemical reaction? What does a chemical reaction look like? (draw or describe) Are there different types of reactions?--How do you know?
2. Have you been successful science classes in the past? What do you think is the reason(s) for this? What would help you to be most successful? What could you do? What could the teacher do?
MINILesson Part 1 and Part 2: There will be no mini lessons today.
Instructions for Tasks:
1. Choose 1 article about chemical reactions.
2. Pick up a reading protocol handout.
3. You will need 3 different colored highlighters, markers, or colored pencils (see the pencil cases attached to your table)
4. Skim your article to get an understanding of what it's about. (this should take you 3-5 minutes)
5. Then, complete the reading protocol. Each part (there are 3 parts) you will be using a different colored highlighter.
6. When finished with the reading protocol show to the substitute to get a lab handout and a lab kit.
7. You should work in partners or small groups to complete the lab.
8. The set-up of the lab will look similar to this youtube video or image (except you will attach the balloon directly to the straw with tape).
9. Tape and rulers can be found at the front in the white baskets.
10. Fill your balloons to approximate sizes for small, medium and large.
11. Collect all data and answer all questions. Keep in your folder when complete.
