Chemistry Unit 2 Day 2

Learning Objective: Students will learn about reaction rates by doing a simulation and will analyze and interpret their data in writing using technical and academic vocabulary: kinetic energy, activation energy, pressure, temperature, concentration, collision theory.

Questions:

  1. What is activation energy? (book)
  2. How do you increase or decrease activation energy? (book or brain)
  3. Why does increasing the concentration of reactants increase the reaction rate?

Answer Choices for number 3:

  • A. Increasing the concentration changes the rate constant.
  • B. Collisions of the right energy are more likely.
  • C. The temperature increases with higher concentrations.
  • D. Some of the reactants are likely to act as catalysts.

Exit Ticket for Day 2:
  1. Suppose you had to explain reaction rates to a classmate, what would you tell them?
  2. What would be the most difficult thing for you to explain?
