Earth Science Unit 2 Day 1

Learning Objective: Students will learn about types of plate boundaries and the impacts each has by creating a foldable and will summarize their learning in writing using technical vocabulary (plate boundary, convergent boundary, divergent boundary, transform boundary, plate tectonics, force).

Questions:

  1. What do you think creates an earthquake? (brain)
  2. What do you think generates more force--when plates collide or when they separate? (brain)
  3. Why do earthquakes often happen near subduction zones?

Answer Choices for number 3:
  • A. Subduction zones have low granite content.
  • B. Subduction zones have weak rocks.
  • C. Subduction zones are near volcanoes.
  • D. Subduction zones are near plate boundaries.
